Little Red Cottage
A piece of Maleny’s history
Our beloved Little Red Cottage has a rich history intertwined with Maleny's dairy heritage. The Maleny Butter Factory was built in 1940 by the Maleny Cooperative Dairy as the second Butter Factory to to built on that site (the first one built in 1912). During that time, a series of cottages were constructed along Coral Street to provide housing for the factory staff, conveniently located just across from the Butter Factory itself.
The Maleny Butter Factory operated as an important hub for the local dairy industry until its closure in 1981. Since then, the original factory building has been repurposed for various businesses and is currently home to the local veterinary practice.
Today, the Little Red Cottage stands as a vibrant space for creativity, community, and ecology, continuing to be a part of Maleny’s evolving story. We’re proud to share this piece of history with you and to see the space filled with new ideas and connections.
