“Narratives – connecting hearts, minds and nature” at The Little Red Cottage, Maleny
The Narratives exhibition is a celebration of storytelling in its most intimate and tactile form—through artist books. Installed in the charming Little Red Cottage gallery in Maleny, this exhibition invites visitors to slow down, turn pages, and explore deeply personal and imaginative interpretations of nature, connection, and belonging.
More than just a showcase of artistic skill, Narratives – Connecting Hearts, Minds and Nature honours the power of the handmade book to hold stories that are at once personal and universal. Each piece explores not only the physicality of materials—paper, thread, ink, and found objects—but also the emotional and ecological landscapes that inform them. These books take many forms: from traditional bindings and delicate concertinas to sculptural constructions and unfolding installations.
The exhibition gently encourages us to reflect on our relationship with the natural world. Whether it’s through poetic reflection, scientific observation, or visual metaphor, the artists draw inspiration from forests, birdsong, the passing of seasons, and the quiet rhythms of the earth. Together, these works speak to the interconnectedness of all things and invite us to listen more closely—to nature, to each other, and to ourselves.
Held as part of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival, Narratives is a fitting tribute to both the art of the book and the enduring stories that live within and around us.
