Where can I use Seed & Cutting Mix?
- Fill the seedling tray/container to a depth of 3-5 cm.
- Sow the seeds in the mix as per seed packet recommendations and instructions.
- Cover the seeds with a dressing of the mix and firm down lightly.
- Lightly water the seedlings, ensuring no run off that may wash away the seeds.
- Covering the seedling tray is recommended to keep the moisture level consistent which can be done easily with cling wrap. Remove once seedlings have emerged.
- Place the seedling tray in a warm location, away from direct sunlight. Keep moist by misting as necessary.
- Once the seeds have germinated slowly introduce them to more sunlight and once they have at least two leaves they are ready to be transplanted.
Sowing Directly into Garden Beds:
- Flatten out the seed bed with a rake and then create a channel approximately 5cm deep and fill with Seed & Cutting Mix
- Sow the seeds in the Seed & Cutting Mix as per seed packet recommendations and instructions.
- Cover the seeds with a dressing of the mix and firm down lightly.
- Lightly water the seedlings, ensuring no run off that may wash away the seeds.
- Keep the mix in the channel and surrounding area moist until complete germination occurs and water the young plants as required.
Growing from Cuttings:
- Pick the healthiest part of the desired plant to take a cutting from.
- Fill a seedling, cell tray or pot with at least 5cm of Seed & Cutting Mix or 2-3cm from the top of the container.
- Make a hole with a pencil and insert approximately 2-3cm of the stem into the mix and firm down lightly. A rooting hormone is recommended to use on the base of the cut stem before placing in the hole.
- Water well and place the newly planted cuttings in a warm, controlled environment like a greenhouse. Ensure the mix is always moist but do not overwater.
- Once the cutting has established, transplant them into Rocky Point’s Premium Potting Mix
